Hellboy: Background

The comic Hellboy tells the story of the world's greatest paranormal investigator ever.

Hellboy was summoned by a Nazi Occult team known as Project Ragna-Rok during WWII that was trying to create a weapon to destroy its enemies with the help of a black sorcerer, whose secret purpose was to destroy life on Earth by bringing back the Age of the Snake.

Meanwhile, in East Bromwich, England, a ranger group, accompained by Professor Frost, from Blackfriar University, Trevor Bruttenholm and a first class medium named Lady Cynthia Eden-Jones, were working together to defeat Project Ragna-Rok.

The arcane power Project Ragna-Rok released was diverted to England by Lady Cynthia, resulting in the incarnation of the creature in East Bromwich instead of the Scottish Isle where the Nazis performed their ceremony. The creature appeared in their camp and the American soldiers adopted the infant demon. Hellboy later sawed off his horns, leaving only stumps, but was unable to get rid of his one massive fist make of seemingly in destructible concrete. When Hellboy grew older, he joined the American Paranormal Investigation Department and went to work battling demons, werewolves, ghosts, frogmen, vampires, nazis and other such agents of evil and weirdness.
