Mother Love Bone
|
Mother Love Bone (MLB) was an influential band in what later became known in the late 80's/early 90's as the "Seattle Sound".
It's creation fused two seminal bands of the Northwest's music scene, Green River (which contained Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard, who would later go on to found Pearl Jam) and Malfunkshun (frontman Andrew Wood, who later overdosed on drugs).

After Mother Love Bone's EP "Shine" was released. It was well received and supported by a tour. MLB's first full-length recording "Apple" was greeted by much critical acclaim and much what expected and anticipated from MLB.
But on the eve of the album's release, frontman Andrew Woods drug overdose would eventually precipitate MLB's disbanding.
The remaing members of Mother Love Bone were joined by members of Soundgarden and by Eddie Vedder (who would soon join Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard to form Pearl Jam) on a tribute effort under the name Temple of the Dog (after one of MLB's songs).

MLB has had 3 recordings on Stardog/Polgram. An EP called "Shine" and a full-length release called "Apple". Three years after Wood's death, Stardog/Polygram released a self-titled 2-CD set complilation, capitalizing on Ament and Gossard's fame from their new band, Pearl Jam.
