Abetorius was to implement one-half of Tremere's plan to control the then
unknown continent of Asia. While another Clan member was working westward
from the Far East, Abetorius was to establish chantries from the other direction;
the plan being for the two to eventually meet. Abetorius' portion of the
plan, however, must be judged a complete failure.
Abetorius' route mimicked that of the Crusaders, and his initial efforts
were successful. But all the chantries he had established were wiped out
by the Assamites as they swept down from their mountain strongholds. Abetorius
and a few of his closest followers fled to Constantinople, where they still
are today. The Assamite's diablerous attacks eventually led to what has
been dubbed "Tremere's revenge," making Assamites unable to drink
Kindred vitæ. Though Abetorius and his followers were instrumental
in this revenge, they have done next to nothing in the intervening centuries
to further the Clan's goals. There are some rumors that someone more powerful
in that area has forced the Tremere to back down, but they are not widely
believed. Still, there must be more to the whole affair than meets the eye,
else Abetorius would no longer be a member of the Inner Council. There are
highly unsupported whispers that Abetorius has remained in power simply
because he knows too much about certain highly-placed Tremere, who would
apparently rather have Abetorius where they can keep an eye on him.
