Though not currently a councilor, Goratrix has been an integral part of
the history of Clan Tremere. Goratrix was one of the most loyal followers
of Tremere himself, and it was his experiments which led to the conversion
of House Tremere to vampirism. While still a mortal Magus, Goratrix discovered
the lair of a Tzimisce Elder and was able to capture and interrogate the
vampire. After the had revealed many vampiric secrets, Goratrix promised
his captive freedom in exchange for Embracing two of Goratrix's apprentices.
Goratrix broke his word and slew the Tzimisce before beginning more serious
experimentation on his now vampiric apprentices.
About a year later, Goratrix informed his mentor, Tremere, that he had discovered
how to make the mages of House Tremere immortal. Tremere and six of his
followers arrived at Goratrix's chantry and drank the specially prepared
blood that Goratrix had taken from his apprentices. The strength of the
concoction knocked them all unconscious, and when they awoke, they were
fully fledged vampires. No one who imbibed the blood was aware of what the
outcome would be, though there were later whispered rumors that Tremere
and Goratrix must have known, as they remained calm in the face of this
massive transformation.
In the decades that followed, the Clan Tzimisce and it's
army of Vicissituded Ghouls, waged war on the Clan Tremere for the slaying of their Clan Elders.
Goratrix developed a ritual that animated stone, by using the blood of Gangrel and Tzimisce Kindred
in a ritual. This ritual created the Gargoyles, a bloodline of artificial Kindred,
which the Clan Tremere used as shock troops in their battles with the Tzimisce.
Goratrix's territory as a councilor was the area of Gaul (now known as France).
When the Inquisitions began, Goratrix was angered by what he considered
an intrusion into his domain. In response, Goratrix infiltrated the Church
using a combination of magic and Domination. His actions were generally
unsubtle, and are commonly thought to only have accelerated the Inquisition.
Attacks against magi and vampires increased dramatically.
Inevitably, Goratrix's own chantry came under seige. He narrowly escaped
an early morning raid by Church officials and was forced to free the area.
The other councilors called an emergency meeting in Transylvania (then the
Clans central chantry) and ruled that Goratrix had overstepped his bounds
and risked the security of the clan. He was ordered to relinquish his position
and authority, and all Goratrix's arguments were ignored or overruled. Convinced
that the other councilors intended to kill him, Goratrix fled to the wilderness
of the eastern mountains.
Though no one is exactly sure when contact was made, Goratrix is today an
influential member of the Sabbat and the founder of the Paths of Dark Thaumaturgy.
Beginning in the mid-eighteenth century, Goratrix began 'tempting' other
Tremere into joining his new House Goratrix. When this House was discovered,
all its followers were marked with a sigil on their foreheads.
