Rank and Sigils


The Rank of a Tremere Magus is represented by her sigils. There are 14 common sigils, representing the mysteries of the order, as well as 8 uncommon, which represent the Inner Circle, as well as the traitor Goratrix. These sigils are usually displayed on the Magus or on her clothing. In general, any Tremere who holds greater sigils may command other members of the Clan. To obtain further sigils, an apprentice must show herself of greater ability than her teacher (this may happen in many different ways). This Magus then graduates to another instructor and another sigil is bestowed. Each initiate begins with one sigil (not always the same) and must learn diversity in magic to advance in rank.
  • A regent nearly always holds dominion over her apprentices (even after they have advanced beyond their mentor). It is also possible for an apprentice of generally lower standing to hold an otherwise unrelated regent (provided the correct sigil combinations are in place).

  • This all leads to a very confusing web-like heirarchy which may take someone with a PhD in Logic to be able to decipher.
